I moved to East Flatbush over a decade ago and the landscape and name both have changed. I randomly saw this restaurant pop up near my house and decided to try it. I got an egg and cheese frittata sandwich, with smashed avocado and I added fried chicken. The egg was a little burnt, like bottom of pan. Chicken was cooked perfectly. I had a latte, it was amazing. I would go back try a hard cider, not a beer drinker.

Butter and Scotch, aka Drunk Bakers
I stumbled upon this place on Instagram. They’re known as the drunk bakers, they have the most insane cake sayings. Because the are a bar as well, I had to make my way. Went on Saturday evening, bar was full sat a table in the back. Browsed through the menu decided on a drink with mezcal and citrus. Usually not a big fan, I was hoping the citrus would make it interesting. It absolutely did, the drink also had a cute S stamped on it. The smores pie was absolutely divine. The torched marshmallow tasted almost like creme brulee. The brown butter cookie was the buttery and yummy. Popcorn got spicer as the bowl emptied. The funky saying cakes were not on display, it truly is a bar. They do serve almost all desserts, including boozy shakes and jello shots. I would go back to have actual cake. Everything I had was really good.
Fuku, the chicken sandwich
We have many options in New York for fried chicken sandwiches. I’m in search of at least three really great ones. What I like about Fuku, the sandwich, fingers and fries is all they do. They make a few sides that change, but the fried items remain the same. I was a little hesitant because I’m used to the breast, when fried and seasoned well, amazing. This fried thigh was seasoned well and fried well. Watching them make it, is a nice touch, it was served piping hot. It was juicy, crispy the spread and pickles were the perfect addition. We added a touch of hot sauce, the bun was soft and so tasty, you wanted more. I was honestly surprised that I didn’t want something cool, like lettuce. They offer a slaw, pickled radish I wanted to try the classic sandwich as they sell it. It needed nothing else. We ordered a combo, it came with fries and a can soda. We also had the fingers and smoky slaw. The fries were lightly dusted with a light seasoning that had a slight kick of heat to it. Everything was great, definitely going back.

The Nugget Spot, after work snack
I had a small window of time and was deciding between ice cream and chicken nuggets. The nuggets were closer, so they won. I’m glad, they were all white meat chicken and more like chunks then nuggets. They are served hot in a paper bag, crispy and moist. The sauce was the perfect amount of cool. I ordered a sweet treat instead of fries. Csb’s fried chocolate and vanilla cookie dough with a pretzel crust. It wasn’t doughy enough for me, the frying melted it too much for my liking. I would go with fries next time. Definitely going back, the variety of nuggets was too much to tackle in one sitting.

Cupcakes! Brooklyn Cupcakes
For months I have been driving by Brooklyn Cupcakes. It’s on my way to football practice, I always say I’m going. Finally for my sisters birthday, that’s what she wanted. She wanted a french toast flavor, I thought that sounded interesting. When I got there I was overwhelmed by the different flavors. Coquito, tres leches, flan con quava just to name a few. I got the french toast, they added syrup on top (optional ), samoas, tres leches, guava and one vanilla. They were all amazing. They cake was light, moist and the frostings were not over powering. Definitely going back, there’s more flavors to try. They were also reasonably priced, $15 for half dozen.

Emack and Bolio’s, Ice Cream Dream
A while ago, I saw a picture of fruity pebbles on a waffle cone dripping with ice cream. Not really a fan of that cereal but I knew there was more that lied behind that. I was right, there’s rice and cocoa krispies and cinnamon toast crunch to go along with the aforementioned. The ice cream flavors are just as imaginative. I usually have a salted caramel, because salted caramel. I chose a vanilla ice cream with chocolate covered pretzels and a caramel swirl with rice and cocoa krispies waffle cone. It was magical. I only had one scoop. It was creamy, the cone was amazing. Definitely worth the $8. I will absolutely travel to the upper east side, just for this treat.

Chicken sandwich at Shake Shack
Shake Shack has introduced a fried chicken sandwich. It is sold in three stores right now. It is so good. The chicken is crispy, the lettuce and herb mayo just right. The pickles taste homemade, I added onions. The hot and crispy chicken with the cool toppings made for an amazing sandwich. I had a caramel shake, skipped the fries this time. I will definitely be back.
Afternoon delight, City Bakery
I came a cross a picture on Instagram of hot chocolate with a fresh made marshmallow. I immediately decided to go where it is . Much to my surprise this place also had a croissant made with chocolate and pretzel. The cocoa is real cocoa, cream and sugar. It is totally amazing. The marshmallow is extra but totally worth it, it’s huge, it’s soft and just the right amount of sweet. It melts right in, it’s wonderful. The croissant was flaky, sweet and salty. It was everything that a pretzel, a croissant and chocolate are individually. It has been a nice after work treat, during those long winter months. They have mac and cheese station, I will have to go back soon to try that.
Lunch, Hotel Americano
We had a celebratory lunch for a coworker. This is the place she choose, it’s close to our office. I have passed it many times and always said I’d go, this was the puch I needed. They have a prefix lunch, I wasn’t that thrilled with the options. I ordered an amazing drink with tequila, mango and smoked chipotle salt on the rim. A vodka based drink with fresh fruit, it was a little sweet. Another drink that had cucumber in it. That drink was refreshingly light. We ordered, fish tacos, a chicken club, a chicken sandwich and a chicken quesadilla. The tacos were good, more of an appetizer, there was only two per order. The sandwiches were served with salad in a light dressing reminiscent of vinaigrette but much lighter. The regular sandwich had melted white cheese, avocado and a chipotle spread, I am a super fan of all three. The bread was toasted to perfection. The club had thick cut bacon and another tasty sauce. They sent over a chocolate mousse dessert for the birthday girl. That was nice, it was whipped perfectly. Definitely will go back, the ambiance was really nice, they have a back yard. We spent about forty dollars per person.
