Westchester Burger Co., White Plains

My mother invited me to spend the weekend with her in White Plains. I was looking forward to hotel living for the weekend. I follow a Westchester lifestyle blog, I went straight there for food recommendations. I found this place, it happened to be walking distance from the hotel, score. I walked over during halftime, I was able to watch the game while I ate. Took me a bit longer to order, the menu had more choices then I was expecting. I knew I wanted wings, they had pretzels bites (what I ended up with). Everything came out piping hot. Wings, crispy and sauced perfectly, blue cheese dressing cool and smooth with celery sticks. Pretzel bites served with warm honey mustard and a cheese sauce. I surprisingly ate all of my food. Of course I started the meal with a margarita, perfect compliment to my meal. They have buffalo chicken dip, I may go back today just for that. If you are in the neighborhood this is a definite must.

Chip’s Family Restaurant, Connecticut

So I used to travel to Boston regularly and would pass the place in my travels. One year we went for birthday breakfast for my sister. The pancakes are so good. So good that I travel from Brooklyn to Connecticut at least twice a year for them. I have what’s called White Chocolate Rendezvous, white chocolate chips, macadamia nuts and fresh strawberries(which I have on the side). I also get eggs and turkey sausage. The pancakes are the main event. If you’re ever passing through Connecticut, look them up.

Bonus Post!! Aqua Bar and Grille, Tampa

Last year I needed a warm and sunny break and happened upon Tampa.  I try to go a least twice a year now.  There’s a Waffle House, Chick-fil-a and I always find chili cheese Fritos all my down south faves.  This visit I ran into my dear friend, we met up for dinner.  Aqua was recommended by the hotel staff.  It was in the lobby of the Westin, it was beautifully decorated.  I was a little under the weather,  very rare for me.  My appetite was on the light side.  I went with a soup and salad.  I still startwwith a dragon berry mojito,  sick or not I needed a drink.  My partner had an Iced Coconut,  it was pretty good, very strong.  I had a salad that had everything in it, apples, goat cheese,  candied walnuts and a champagne vinaigrette.  It was great.  I had the chef’s soup which was butternut squash.  It was pureed nicely, had hints of nutmeg and cinnamon but not a sweet soup.  I also had the brussel sprouts,  they have become my new favorite vegetable.  They were roasted and slightly sweet.  My partner had calamari to start and steak with seasonal roasted veggies and black rice.  The calamari was crispy a little lack luster on taste.  The steak and veggies were both cooked well and were alright.  The black rice was amazing.  A hint of sweet, the rice was cooked perfectly best part of the meal.  I skipped dessert,  I barely made it through my dishes.  I would go again, have a full course meal including dessert.  Being sick, my menu choices were a little off.  The ambiance was really nice too, open kitchen big booths and they have outside seating.

Bonus Post!! Eleven 14 Kitchen

My life has hurdles have been causing me to do lots of things alone.  I decided to travel to Connecticut for a staycation.    I found a restaurant first and planned my trip around that, cause hey…it’s about the food.  A quick Google search gave me a few restaurants.  This one stood out the most to me.  I went on a Sunday after work, the drive was short and sweet.  I called to see if I needed a reservation,  she said it wasn’t necessary.  I got there a few minutes after 8.  The place is actually in the bottom of a boutique hotel.  The bar had a quite a few people but the restaurant was pretty empty, I was seated right away.  As I walked to my seat I admired the decor.  It was designed beautifully.   I immediately ordered a margarita, my signature drink.  After perusing the menu I decided on pasta with fresh marinara and broccoli and onion rings as my appetizer.  The bread basket had breadsticks and bread, served with olive oil.  I liked the variety in the basket.   The onion rings were thick, light and crispy.  The pasta was amazing.  Cooked perfectly, fresh black pepper and parmesan cheese on the side.  The bowl was layered, broccoli, pasta and sauce.  I managed to save room for dessert.  My choice was called the Chocolate bar. It was superb. A shortbread cookie with caramel and chocolate. It reminded of a homemade Twix. I would absolutely go again, totally worth the drive.

Bonus post!! Taste of Chicago, part two.

I woke up on the morning of day two with my whole day planned.  I had breakfast downstairs at Angels and Kings. Buttermilk pancakes with orange butter, maple syrup and turkey sausage. Everything was delish,  I love when everything is served hot.  I then took a cab to Shedd Aquarium, I love aquariums and try to visit every city I go to.  After the aquarium I walked back to Taste for a few quick bites. I had a tequila lime taco, corn on the cob, a nutella filled crepe,  a slice of cheesecake, fried mustard catfish, buffalo boneless chicken and fresh cut fries with a carrot aioli. The aioli was divine, the chicken was too spicy for me, I can usually do heat, so I was disappointed, I only ate two.  The corn was so fresh and the crepe was made to order so it was super hot and yummy.  I love tequila anyway adding a taco to the mix just warms my heart.  The catfish was like grandma used to make divine.  I also found a crazy assortment of hot chips. I posted a pic below.  I found the Garrett Popcorn,  it originated in Chicago so I had the authentic Chicago Mix, saved it for my plane ride home.  For my first ‘big girl’ trip, I had a ball.  I would like to go back to do a little more sight seeing.

PS I was out there for 7/11, got my free slurpee!

Bonus Post!! Taste of Chicago, part one.

After two years of longing to go I finally made it. It was a graduation gift. My flight was delayed a couple hours due to rain. I picked a hotel (Hard Rock) that ended up being walking distance to Taste, score!!!  I arrived early enough to enjoy Taste twice and take a nap on day one.  I didn’t have a particular place I wanted to try, just as many as I could in two days three visits and tickets bought. Visit one: stuffed spinach pizza, bbq chicken slider, jerk chicken,  hazelnut gelato and a watermelon slice to clean the palate. Everything was good and just the right portion. You can get taste portions or a full portion so to maximize my tastes I got taste portions of everything.
