Bonus Post! The Capital Grille

I’ve made two successful trips back to Boston this summer. Lots of emotion,  no tears though. My trips used to be to visit my Nana. She has gone on to a better place. Now my visits are to a city that I have grown to love. I am not a steak person, but I am a food person. This restaurant is known for steak, there surf and turf options are on point as well. Started with a mojito, mint was muddled well.  The calamari was amazing,  first time I ever had it tossed with hot cherry peppers. I had a caesar salad, the dressing was just right, keeping the lettuce nice and crisp. I went with cod, I usually have salmon. It was great, had a citrus flavor, with pieces of grapefruit included. My date had a steak, NY sirloin,  enjoyed every morsel of it. We had creamed spinach as a side. It was very tasty, not to creamy. I saved room for dessert. Creme brulee,  it was divine. Just a few berries on top, yum! The service was amazing, very attentive and helpful.

I am looking forward to going to ine in New York to compare the food and service.

Brunch and Lunch, Pounds and Ounces

Not too long ago my post office was closed. I was rerouted to the one on 18th.  I past this place first dish I saw was Mac and Cheese Croquettes.  My next Saturday off, I went for brunch with my homegirl. No croquettes on the brunch menu, pretty sure I could’ve ordered them though. They had something else that caught my eye,  deviled eggs!!  I decided to have a savory brunch instead of sweet.  I had the eggs and a crispy chicken benedict. A savory waffle, greens, chicken with an egg on top. I got egg only on one, not a fan of the runny egg.  Chicken was cooked well, nice and crispy, greens were surprisingly tasty the waffle had a touch of sweetness.  My girl had a steak burrito it was huge!! The hash browns, were yummy.  I had a tequila based drink, it was cool and light.  It was called snow cone, so appropriate.

Lunch with my peeps was great.  I ordered my croquettes, immediately.  I had wings and ginger carrots too. My date had calamari and a salmon burger.  I had a/c lemonade,  apple cucumber. He had a berry drink with apple juice in it.  They were both blended and super yummy. Mac and cheese was soo good. The crust on it was perfect, the mac and cheese was hot when you opened it. The calamari was nice and crispy.  The wings were cooked enough to have that nice crust on it. The had a nice flavor. The carrots were the baby ones, orange and yellow.  The ginger was on target,  not over powering.  His burger, whoa!  It was big, had lox and sliced avacado along with lettuce, tomato and onion.  It was marvelous. Served with fries, they were good too.

The service was great both times I went. The atmosphere is really swank and sleek.  I would absolutely go again. They have a nutella stuff french toast, gotta try that.

Monday night date at Kipsey’s

I love a date night, a Monday is a wonderful way to start the week off. The mac and cheese is all the rave here, that’s what drew me in.  I ordered a drink with tequila,  my liquor of choice. It was called the Sweet Kipper, it was divine. My date had a mint lemonade served in a mason jar, he’s not drinker. It was good too.  For appetizers we both ordered deviled eggs(not enough to share), cornbread and calamri. The eggs were great they were served with toast.  The cornbread was hot, served in the pan and came with savory butter.  Our main courses were meatloaf and chicken schnitzel, both with spinach amd mac and cheese. The meatloaf was super moist. The spinach was still hot and had just enough garlic. The mac and cheese was really rich and very tasty. My schnitzel was cooked perfectly. Schnitzel is usually chicken or pork pounded out super thin, breaded and fried to a crisp.  No room for anything else, we were both stuffed.

I went back to this place for happy hour, I wanted to try the grilled wings. They were so worth the trip. I will go back again.

Seeksucker, Brunch

I had a scheduled dentist appointment in Carroll Gardens. I thought it would be nice to have a breakfast date, didn’t happen. Instead of being disappointed twice, I went on to breakfast alone. I had looked at this place before for lunch or dinner. I saw they were open for breakfast, score!! When she seated me she immediately offered complimentary still water, I loved the bottle. I browsed the menu, before she could tell me the special, I saw it. Chocolate croissant french toast with bourbon maple syrup, whoop there it is. It was served in bowl with the syrup at the bottom, it was piping hot. Chocolate all melty, it was amazing.

Breakfast was a happy surprise,  I will go back for lunch or dinner.

Fletcher’s BBQ

This post is super late. My phone was stolen the day I lost my Nana. I got a replacement phone and cracked the screen the night I finished packing up her things.  A whole lot in a few weeks. My pictures were also lost, I managed to find most of them but they aren’t uploading. I will try to figure out a way to possibly post some pics later.  Without pics, here finally goes the post.

I used to know of so many places to eat in Brooklyn and now there are so many more choices.  I searched a site for someplace new to go to. I heard smoked meat and got all excited.  This place makes their own sausage, smokes the meat and makes fresh lemonade and iced tea.  You can see the different cuts of the meat. The different roasts and cooking techniques.  They serve the food on a tray with brown paper.  I ordered the pulled chicken, my sister had a pork taco and housemade sausage. My sandwich came with chips (kettle cooked) and cole slaw. I had to order the fridge pickles. I love homemade pickles. They were the perfect compliment to my meal.  The meat was tender and seasoned so well, the chicken was so good, you could taste the smokey flavor without it being overwhelmed.  Her sausage was grilled and served like a hot dog, sans the bun.  The taco had pulled pork.  They had a homemade hot sauce and a bbq sauce with just the amount of tang. I had a Boylan cream soda, the best.  They also had desserts, yum!  A grasshopper, a whoopie pie and a salted caramel brownie.  In case you haven’t noticed I have a thing for salted caramel.  The grasshopper and brownie were amazing.  The whoopie pie, was not it.

I would absolutely go back and have
a real drink and a taco.

Update:

I went to Dekalb Food Market and there’s a Fletcher’s. I had a bbq chicken sandwich and bbq waffle fries.  Same great taste, just closer.

Graduation Lunch : City Lobster and Steak

Yay, I graduated this week. Let the celebrations begin.  First stop after commencement, City Lobster and Steak. We arrived at lunchtime and were seated after a five minute wait. As a happy surprise there was a lunch pre fixe for $24.50. An appetizer and entree. We had the caesar salad and calamari as appetizers. They served hot rolls with butter or olive oil.  A lobster roll, jumbo shrimp with penne, salmon with horseradish crust, angus strip and fish and chips were the entrees. The salad was tossed with the right amount of dressing, it had shredded carrots and purple cabbage. The calamari crust was seasoned nicely. The aioli was a thai chili lime with ginger and basil, it was very tasty.  The crust on the fish was crispy and thick. The lobster roll was lots of lobster.  The steak was cooked well, the whipped potatoes were light and the spinach had a nice flavor. The sauce for the shrimp and pasta was very flavorful.  The crust on the salmon had the right amount of kick. We ordered two desserts,  Keylime pie and Chocolate Bourbon pecan pie served with vanilla ice cream. The keylime was light and airy. The pecan was just the right amount of chocolate.

I ordered a vanilla ginger martini. I loved it.

The waiter sang congratulations and brought out a spakler with my dessert. I thought was really nice. I love good service.

I have no complaints about anything. Everything was served hot and fresh. I would absolutely go back.

Birthday Brunch at Stanton Social

I decided to go to Stanton Social for birthday brunch.  We sat upstairs,  it was a loungy feel, big sofas and a live deejay.  Their menu is similar to Beauty and Essex, its really tapas food.  We ordered five or six dishes.  I ordered a Pomegranate Peach Bellini. It was the perfect compliment to the dishes that followed.  We started with the Orange Bourbon Pull Apart Bread. It was warm and pre sliced.  Breakfast Bruschetta up next, tasted like pizza.  Had to order the Chicken n Waffle.  I somehow overlooked the corn pudding that was on top of the waffle. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste.  Chicken Taquito, it was the best dish. It was crispy, warm and the crema was super flavorful.  The meal was closed out with Carmelized Banana Pancakes. They were hot and fluffy. They were the perfect ending.

The chicken from the chicken and waffle was okay.  That dish was not served hot and that really made a difference to me.

I would like to go again for dinner. If they have a deejay for Sunday brunch, I can only imagine a Saturday night.

Birthday dinner at Buttermilk Channel

image

I am always excited about birthdays. Mine and anyone’s, they are truly your day. I was really looking forward the cheddar waffle, it did not disappoint.  The cheese was just enough to taste, not over power. It was light and crispy as a waffle should be. The balsamic maple syrup was the right mix for the waffle. The chicken blew me away. I was so looking forward to waffle the chicken took a back seat in my mind.  It was moist and pipping hot.  The meal started with popovers. They were glazed in honey and they were delicious.  I ordered cornbread with chili lime butter, it was a mini loaf and really good. The butter was the right amount of tang.  I also had the house made pickles. The spears were sour and the slices were sweet and flavorful.  We had Van Leeuwen ice cream, pecan pie sundae, coffee de cream and chocolate tart with pretzel drizzle. All of the dessert were great.

The slaw served with the meal was a little dry and the peas were a little more crisp then we would have preferred.  Other than that the meal was perfect.

The ambiance was simple and created enough space for our party of seven to still be intimate.

I had a great meal, great time and I would go again.  Next time to try brunch 😉
